Treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism associated with chronic kidney disease, vitamin D deficiency, and conditions requiring supplementation of vitamin D metabolites when standard vitamin D is insufficient.

Calcifediol is converted in the kidneys to calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3), the active form that increases intestinal calcium absorption, enhances renal calcium reabsorption, and works with parathyroid hormone to regulate calcium and phosphorus homeostasis.

Requires monitoring of serum calcium and phosphorus levels due to risk of hypercalcemia. Use cautiously in patients with kidney stones, hypercalcemia, or those taking thiazide diuretics or cardiac glycosides. Not suitable for patients requiring strict phosphorus restriction without careful supervision.
