Treatment of hyperphosphatemia in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on dialysis, and to control phosphate levels in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients.

Acts as a phosphate binder by exchanging calcium ions for phosphate ions in the gastrointestinal tract, forming insoluble calcium phosphate complexes that are excreted in feces, thereby preventing phosphate absorption.

Should be taken with meals for maximum effectiveness. May cause hypercalcemia; monitor serum calcium levels regularly. Avoid using with other calcium supplements. May interact with certain medications; take antibiotics and other oral medications at least 1 hour before or 3 hours after calcium acetate. Use with caution in patients with hypochlorhydria or on proton pump inhibitors.
