Prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency states including osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, hypoparathyroidism, and renal osteodystrophy. Also used during pregnancy, lactation, and in postmenopausal women when dietary calcium intake may be insufficient.
Calcium is essential for bone mineralization, muscle contraction, nerve function, and blood clotting. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is converted in the body to calcitriol, which enhances intestinal absorption of calcium and supports bone remodeling. The combination ensures optimal calcium bioavailability.
Take with food for enhanced absorption, especially calcium carbonate. Separate administration from other medications (e.g., antibiotics, bisphosphonates, thyroid hormones) by at least 2-4 hours. Avoid excessive doses which may cause hypercalcemia. Monitor for constipation or gas. Adequate fluid intake recommended.
