Treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia (softening of bones), rickets, hypoparathyroidism, and vitamin D or calcium deficiency states. Often used in postmenopausal women, elderly patients, and individuals with limited sun exposure or malabsorption issues.
Calcium citrate provides supplemental calcium for bone formation and maintenance of serum calcium levels. Ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) is converted to active vitamin D metabolites in the liver and kidneys, which enhance intestinal absorption of calcium and support proper bone mineralization.
Take with food for optimal calcium absorption. Avoid taking with certain antibiotics or thyroid medications—space doses at least 2-4 hours apart. Monitor for signs of hypercalcemia (constipation, nausea, confusion). May interact with diuretics, corticosteroids, and seizure medications. Doses should not exceed recommended daily limits without medical supervision.
