Treatment and prevention of calcium deficiency (hypocalcemia), osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, and hypoparathyroidism. Also used during pregnancy, lactation, and menopause when calcium requirements increase. May serve as a phosphorus binder in chronic renal failure.

Provides bioavailable calcium ions that supplement dietary intake. Calcium is essential for bone and teeth formation, muscle contraction, nerve impulse transmission, and blood coagulation. The lactate component enhances absorption compared to some other calcium salts.

Should be taken with food to enhance absorption. Separate from tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, and bisphosphonates by at least 2 hours. May interact with digoxin, thiazide diuretics, and calcium channel blockers. Monitor for hypercalcemia with prolonged high-dose use. Adequate vitamin D is required for optimal calcium utilization.
