Treatment of complicated urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, bone and joint infections, and septicemia caused by susceptible gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and certain Proteus species.

As a beta-lactam antibiotic, carbenicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking and leading to bacterial cell death.

Contains significant sodium content which may concern patients with heart failure or hypertension. Requires monitoring for bleeding complications and electrolyte abnormalities. Dose adjustment necessary in patients with renal impairment. Cross-reactivity possible in patients with penicillin allergy.
