Carvykti is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who have received four or more prior lines of therapy, including a proteasome inhibitor, an immunomodulatory agent, and an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody.
Carvykti is a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy that targets B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA). The treatment involves collecting the patient's own T cells, genetically engineering them to express a CAR that binds to BCMA on myeloma cells, and then infusing these modified cells back into the patient to recognize and destroy cancer cells.
Carvykti carries a boxed warning for cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and neurologic toxicity. It should be administered by qualified healthcare providers in an appropriately equipped setting. Patients must be monitored for CRS and neurotoxicity following infusion. Due to the risk of prolonged cytopenias, blood counts should be monitored. The treatment is provided as a one-time infusion.
