Treats respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and intra-abdominal infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Particularly useful against anaerobic organisms including Bacteroides species.

As a beta-lactam antibiotic, cefmetazole inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), ultimately leading to bacterial cell death.

Administered via intravenous injection. May cause allergic reactions in patients with penicillin or cephalosporin sensitivity. Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, injection site reactions, and potential for Clostridioides difficile infection. Should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment.
