Treats complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI), and hospital-acquired/ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (HABP/VABP) caused by susceptible gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.
As a beta-lactam antibiotic, ceftolozane sulfate inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking and leading to bacterial cell death. The addition of tazobactam helps overcome certain resistance mechanisms by inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes.
Administered intravenously in healthcare settings. May cause adverse effects including diarrhea, nausea, fever, and kidney dysfunction. Requires appropriate diagnostic testing and monitoring. Use with caution in patients with renal impairment. Effectiveness may vary based on local antibiotic resistance patterns.
