Used for the local control of bleeding during or after surgical procedures, including general surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, and dental extractions. Also applied to traumatic wounds, capillary bleeding surfaces, and areas where traditional suturing or cauterization is difficult or ineffective.
Oxidized cellulose works through multiple mechanisms: it provides a physical matrix for platelet aggregation and clot formation, its low pH may contribute to mild vasoconstriction, and it creates a gelatinous mass when contacting blood that helps seal bleeding vessels.
Should not be left in contaminated wounds as it may act as a foreign body and promote infection. Not for intravascular use. May interfere with bone regeneration if used near fractures. Typically absorbed by the body within 2-6 weeks depending on the amount used and location. Should be stored according to manufacturer instructions and is for professional use only.
