Used to relieve dry, non-productive cough associated with the common cold, bronchitis, laryngitis, pharyngitis, and other minor respiratory tract irritations.
Acts as a cough suppressant by raising the cough threshold in the medulla oblongata of the brain, thereby reducing the urge to cough without affecting the ciliary activity of the respiratory epithelium.
Should not be used for productive coughs as it may impede clearance of secretions. Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants while taking this medication. Not recommended for children under 2 years old. May cause drowsiness or dizziness; use caution when driving or operating machinery.
