Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (hay fever), including sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy palate, and itchy, watery eyes. Also used for chronic skin itching (pruritus).

Claritin is a long-acting, non-sedating antihistamine (H1 receptor antagonist). It works by blocking histamine from binding to H1 receptors in the body, thereby reducing allergic symptoms without significant central nervous system penetration, which minimizes drowsiness.

Generally well-tolerated with minimal sedation. Available OTC in tablets, chewables, and liquid form for adults and children as young as 2 years. Patients with liver or kidney impairment should consult a healthcare provider before use. Does not prevent hives or treat anaphylaxis. Avoid exceeding recommended dosing.
