Cloxacillin Sodium
Cloxacillin Sodium is a penicillinase-resistant penicillin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, particularly those caused by Staphylococcus aureus. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, making it effective against penicillin-resistant staph infections. This medication is available in oral and injectable forms and is commonly prescribed for skin infections, wound infections, and other staph-related conditions.

Treatment of infections caused by penicillinase-producing Staphylococcus aureus, including skin and soft tissue infections, wound infections, osteomyelitis, and endocarditis. Also used for other penicillin-resistant gram-positive bacterial infections.
As a penicillinase-resistant penicillin, it inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), preventing cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains in the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell death.
Should not be used in patients with known penicillin hypersensitivity due to cross-reactivity risk. Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, diarrhea, and potential allergic reactions. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve. May reduce effectiveness of oral contraceptives and interact with blood thinners.
