Cometriq is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks multiple receptor tyrosine kinases including VEGFR, MET, RET, AXL, and KIT. By inhibiting these proteins, it interferes with tumor growth, blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), and cancer cell survival and spread.
Cometriq may cause serious side effects including severe bleeding, blood clots, heart attack, stroke, gastrointestinal perforation, fistulas, and wound healing complications. Blood pressure should be monitored regularly. Treatment should be stopped for certain adverse events. Common side effects include diarrhea, mouth sores, hand-foot syndrome, weight loss, and fatigue.
