Copanlisib is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma (FL) who have received at least two prior lines of systemic therapy. It belongs to the ATC classification L01 (antineoplastic agents).
Copanlisib works by inhibiting phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), a key enzyme in the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway that regulates cell growth, proliferation, and survival. By blocking this pathway, it inhibits tumor cell growth and induces apoptosis in malignant B-cells.
Copanlisib is administered intravenously on Days 1, 8, and 15 of a 28-day cycle. Common adverse reactions include hyperglycemia, hypertension, diarrhea, fatigue, and decreased white blood cell counts. It requires regular monitoring of blood glucose and blood pressure during treatment. Patients should be advised about potential immune-related adverse reactions and the risk of infection.
