Copper Oxodotreotide Cu-64

Published: July 26, 2026Updated: August 27, 2026

Copper Oxodotreotide Cu-64 is a radiolabeled diagnostic agent used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging for the detection of neuroendocrine tumors and other conditions expressing somatostatin receptors. It combines the somatostatin-analog peptide oxodotreotide with the copper-64 radioisotope to enable functional imaging of receptor-positive lesions throughout the body.

Quick summary

Used for PET imaging of neuroendocrine tumors and other malignancies expressing somatostatin receptors, including carcinoid tumors, gastrinomas, and somatotropinomas. May also be used for imaging of inflammatory processes or other conditions with somatostatin receptor expression.

Oxodotreotide binds to somatostatin receptors (particularly SSTR2) on target cells. The copper-64 radionuclide emits positrons, allowing detection by PET scanner to generate functional images showing distribution of receptor-positive tissue.

Administered intravenously by qualified personnel in specialized imaging centers. Radiation exposure is inherent due to Cu-64 half-life. Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity. Image interpretation requires nuclear medicine expertise. Pregnancy status should be considered due to radiation exposure.
