Credelio is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) and for the treatment and control of tick infestations, including black-legged ticks (Ixodes scapularis), American dog ticks (Dermacentor variabilis), and other common tick species in dogs.
Credelio contains lotilaner, an isoxazoline-class ectoparasiticide. It works by blocking ligand-gated chloride channels in the nervous system of fleas and ticks, specifically targeting glutamate and GABA receptors. This causes hyperexcitation and death of the parasites.
Credelio is given orally once monthly with food to ensure adequate absorption. Potential side effects may include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and in rare cases, neurological effects. It should not be used in dogs with a history of seizures or neurological disorders. Always consult a veterinarian before use, especially if combining with other medications.
