Used to induce mydriasis (pupil dilation) and cycloplegia for diagnostic eye examinations, pre-surgical preparation, and treatment of inflammatory conditions like uveitis and iritis. It is commonly used for cycloplegic refraction in children and as an adjunct in ophthalmic procedures.
Cyclopentolate is an anticholinergic that blocks muscarinic receptors in the eye muscles, causing pupil dilation and temporary paralysis of accommodation. Phenylephrine is an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist that causes pupillary dilation by stimulating the dilator pupillae muscle. Together, they provide rapid and sustained mydriasis.
For ophthalmic use only; avoid contamination of the dropper tip. Use with caution in patients with heart conditions, hypertension, or thyroid disorders. May cause temporary blurred vision and light sensitivity. Not recommended for use in infants and young children unless specifically indicated. Monitor for systemic absorption, especially in pediatric patients.
