Cyclosporine Microemulsion is indicated for the treatment of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye syndrome), particularly in cases where inflammation contributes to reduced tear production. It is used to increase tear production in patients with chronic dry eye disease.
As a calcineurin inhibitor, cyclosporine suppresses T-lymphocyte activation and reduces inflammatory cytokine production on the ocular surface. The microemulsion formulation enhances drug penetration, allowing the medication to reduce inflammation and restore normal lacrimal gland function, thereby increasing natural tear secretion.
May cause temporary eye burning, stinging, or blurred vision upon application. Patients should avoid touching the tip of the container to prevent contamination. Contact lenses should be removed before instillation and may be reinserted after 15 minutes. Treatment effects may take several weeks to become apparent. Use with caution in patients with active ocular infections.
