Cyklokapron is used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), reduce blood loss during and after surgery, manage hereditary angioedema, and prevent bleeding in dental procedures for patients with hemophilia.
As an antifibrinolytic, Cyklokapron inhibits the activation of plasminogen and plasmin, which are enzymes responsible for breaking down fibrin clots. By slowing fibrinolysis, it helps stabilize blood clots and reduces excessive bleeding.
Cyklokapron should not be used in patients with active blood clots, history of thromboembolic disease, or subarachnoid hemorrhage. It may cause gastrointestinal side effects and should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment. Always follow prescribed dosing and inform your healthcare provider of any blood clot history before use.
