Treatment and prevention of bleeding in patients with hemophilia A (congenital factor VIII deficiency), including on-demand treatment of bleeding episodes, surgical bleeding prophylaxis, and routine prophylaxis to reduce the frequency of bleeding.
As a recombinant factor VIII replacement therapy, damoctocog alfa pegol provides the deficient clotting factor needed for the intrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade. The pegylation (attachment of polyethylene glycol) extends the plasma half-life, allowing for extended dosing intervals compared to standard factor VIII products while maintaining effective hemostatic coverage.
Like all factor VIII products, there is a risk of developing neutralizing antibodies (inhibitors), particularly in previously untreated patients. Regular monitoring of factor VIII levels and inhibitor testing is recommended. Not indicated for von Willebrand disease. Administered via intravenous injection by healthcare professionals or trained caregivers.
