Treatment of chronic Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infection in adults, used in combination with other direct-acting antiviral agents. It is indicated for patients with compensated liver disease including those with cirrhosis.
Dasabuvir is a non-nucleoside inhibitor of the HCV NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. By binding to the palm domain of the NS5B polymerase, it inhibits viral RNA replication and prevents the virus from multiplying.
Dasabuvir is always used in combination with other antiviral medications and should not be used as monotherapy. It requires co-administration with ritonavir in many regimens as a pharmacokinetic booster. Liver function monitoring may be required during treatment. Not recommended for use in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B and C).
