Degarelix
Degarelix is a GnRH receptor antagonist used to treat advanced prostate cancer in patients requiring androgen deprivation therapy. It works by blocking GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, which reduces the release of gonadotropins and subsequently lowers testosterone levels. Unlike GnRH agonists, it achieves rapid testosterone suppression without causing an initial testosterone surge.
Degarelix is an injectable GnRH antagonist used to treat advanced prostate cancer by rapidly reducing testosterone production.

Degarelix is indicated for the treatment of patients with advanced hormone-sensitive prostate cancer who require androgen deprivation therapy. It is used when reduction of testosterone to castrate levels is clinically indicated.
Degarelix is a competitive GnRH receptor antagonist that binds reversibly to pituitary GnRH receptors. By blocking GnRH stimulation, it reduces the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which in turn decreases testosterone production by the testes.
Degarelix is administered as a subcutaneous injection (with an initial loading dose followed by maintenance doses). Common side effects include injection site reactions, hot flashes, and weight gain. Liver function should be monitored during treatment. Unlike GnRH agonists, it does not cause an initial testosterone flare. Patients should continue treatment only while disease responds or until unacceptable toxicity occurs.
