Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men at high risk for fractures, management of bone loss in patients receiving certain cancer therapies, and reduction of skeletal-related events in patients with bone metastases from solid tumors.

Acts as a monoclonal antibody that binds to RANKL (Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor Kappa-B Ligand), blocking its interaction with RANK receptors on osteoclast precursors. This inhibits the formation, function, and survival of osteoclasts, thereby reducing bone resorption and increasing bone density.

Administered as a subcutaneous injection typically every 6 months for osteoporosis indications. May increase risk of hypocalcemia, particularly in patients with renal impairment. Osteonecrosis of the jaw and atypical femur fractures are rare but serious potential adverse effects. Not recommended during pregnancy. Patients should maintain adequate calcium and vitamin D intake during treatment.
