Desoximetasone is used to treat inflammatory and pruritic (itchy) manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions, including eczema, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, psoriasis, and other inflammatory skin disorders.
As a synthetic topical corticosteroid, desoximetasone works by suppressing the inflammatory response in the skin. It reduces immune cell activity, decreases the production of inflammatory mediators, and causes vasoconstriction of skin blood vessels, thereby reducing redness, swelling, and itching.
Desoximetasone should only be applied topically to the affected skin areas as directed by a healthcare provider. It should not be used on the face, broken skin, or in large quantities for prolonged periods without medical supervision. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Use the lowest effective strength for the shortest duration needed to control symptoms. Occlusive dressings may increase absorption and should only be used when specifically instructed.
