Treats seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (hay fever), allergic conjunctivitis, urticaria (hives), angioedema, and pruritus associated with allergic skin conditions. May also be used as part of cold symptom relief.
Dexchlorpheniramine is a selective H1 histamine receptor antagonist. By blocking these receptors, it prevents histamine from causing allergic symptoms such as vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and smooth muscle contraction. As a first-generation antihistamine, it also has anticholinergic and sedative properties.
May cause drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, and urinary retention. Should be used with caution in elderly patients and those with glaucoma, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or cardiovascular conditions. Alcohol and other CNS depressants may enhance sedative effects. May interact with MAO inhibitors and other anticholinergic medications.
