Diamode is used to treat acute diarrhea, including traveler's diarrhea, and chronic diarrhea associated with irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease. It helps reduce the frequency and volume of stools by decreasing the number of bowel movements.
Diamode contains loperamide, which acts on opioid receptors in the intestinal wall. It slows intestinal transit time, allowing for increased absorption of fluids and electrolytes, and reduces the secretion of fluids into the intestine. This results in firmer stools and decreased frequency of bowel movements.
Diamode should not be used if there is blood in the stool, fever, or a history of liver disease. It is not recommended for bacterial infections that can cause colitis or for children under specified age limits without medical guidance. Prolonged use should be avoided and medical attention should be sought if symptoms persist beyond 48 hours.
