Published: July 26, 2026Updated: July 26, 2026

Dianeal PD-2/1.5% is a sterile peritoneal dialysis solution used to remove waste products and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys can no longer perform this function adequately. It is designed for patients with end-stage renal disease who require dialysis, and works by infusing into the abdominal cavity where it utilizes the peritoneum as a natural filtering membrane. The 1.5% dextrose concentration provides a specific osmotic gradient to facilitate fluid and toxin removal.

Dianeal PD-2/1.5% is indicated for the treatment of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and acute kidney injury. It is used in patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) or automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) as a long-term renal replacement therapy.

The solution is infused into the peritoneal cavity through a permanently placed catheter. Dextrose in the solution creates an osmotic gradient that pulls waste products, electrolytes, and excess fluid from the blood vessels lining the peritoneum into the dialysis solution. After a dwell period, the fluid is drained and replaced with fresh solution, repeating the process continuously.

Dianeal PD-2 should only be used under medical supervision by trained healthcare providers or patients who have been properly instructed. The solution must be at body temperature before use. Potential complications include peritonitis, catheter-related infections, fluid imbalances, and electrolyte abnormalities. It is contraindicated in patients with abdominal adhesions, active abdominal infections, or recent abdominal surgery. Patients should follow their prescribed dialysis regimen exactly as directed and report any signs of infection, cloudy drainage fluid, or unusual symptoms to their healthcare provider immediately.
