Digifab is indicated for the treatment of digoxin or digitoxin toxicity, particularly in cases of potentially life-threatening overdose or poisoning. It is used when there are signs of severe cardiac toxicity such as arrhythmias, hyperkalemia, or other dangerous symptoms related to digoxin exposure.

Digifab contains fragments of antibodies that specifically bind to digoxin molecules. These Fab fragments have a high affinity for digoxin and digitoxin, binding to the drug molecules circulating in the bloodstream and tissues. Once bound, the digoxin-Fab complex is rendered inactive and is eliminated through the kidneys.

Digifab is administered intravenously by healthcare professionals in a clinical setting. Allergic reactions may occur, particularly in patients with known allergies to sheep proteins or other sheep-derived products. Serum digoxin levels may become unreliable after administration. Patients should be monitored for recurrence of toxicity and for potential hypokalemia after treatment. Digifab may interfere with standard digoxin immunoassay measurements.
