Acute treatment of migraine headaches with or without aura, and cluster headache episodes. It is not intended for migraine prophylaxis or for use in patients with baseline migraine with prolonged aura.

Acts as an agonist at serotonin (5-HT1B/1D) receptors and alpha-adrenergic receptors, causing vasoconstriction of cranial blood vessels and reducing neurogenic inflammation that contributes to headache pain.

Contraindicated in patients with coronary artery disease, uncontrolled hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, or those using protease inhibitors or other potent CYP3A4 inhibitors. Should not be used within 24 hours of other ergot-containing medications or triptans. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and application site reactions with nasal spray formulations.
