Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), chronic stable angina, and certain supraventricular arrhythmias. May be used when monotherapy is insufficient or as part of combination therapy.
Blocks calcium channels in cardiac and vascular smooth muscle cells, preventing calcium entry. This causes relaxation of vascular smooth muscle (vasodilation), reduces heart rate, and decreases cardiac contractility, lowering blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand.
Do not discontinue abruptly—may cause rebound hypertension or worsening angina. Monitor for bradycardia, hypotension, and heart block. Avoid in severe hypotension, sick sinus syndrome, or concurrent IV beta-blocker use. May interact with grapefruit juice, digoxin, and other CYP3A4 substrates.
