Dopram is used to treat respiratory depression following anesthesia, drug-induced CNS depression, and acute respiratory insufficiency. It may also be used in neonatal settings for apnea of prematurity when other measures have been unsuccessful.

Dopram stimulates the respiratory center in the medulla oblongata of the brain, increasing tidal volume and respiratory rate. It has a rapid onset of action, typically within 20-40 seconds when given intravenously.

Dopram is administered only in controlled clinical settings under close monitoring. It does not replace mechanical ventilation in severe cases. Common side effects may include increased blood pressure, tachycardia, and agitation. It should be used cautiously in patients with hypertension, heart disease, or seizures. Treatment duration should be brief to avoid tolerance.
