Treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents in treatment-naive patients 12 years and older with baseline viral load ≤100,000 copies/mL.

Non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). Works by blocking the reverse transcriptase enzyme, which HIV needs to replicate, thereby reducing viral load and increasing CD4 cell counts.

Must be taken with a meal. Not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment. May cause depressive symptoms; patients should be monitored for psychiatric symptoms. Resistance may develop if taken alone or with incompatible antiretrovirals. Always used as part of combination therapy, never as monotherapy.
