Treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults. ZEPATIER (elbasvir/grazoprevir combination) is indicated for HCV genotypes 1 and 4, often used in patients with or without cirrhosis, and may be used with or without ribavirin depending on the specific patient population and prior treatment history.
Elbasvir is an HCV NS5A inhibitor that interferes with viral RNA replication and virion assembly. When combined with grazoprevir (an NS3/4A protease inhibitor), the two drugs act synergistically to suppress multiple stages of the HCV viral life cycle, effectively reducing viral load to undetectable levels in most patients.
ZEPATIER is a fixed-dose combination tablet taken once daily with or without food. Prior to treatment, patients should undergo HCV genotype testing and liver function assessment. Contraindicated in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B and C). May cause elevation of liver enzymes; liver function monitoring is recommended during treatment. Drug interactions with certain concomitant medications should be evaluated prior to initiating therapy.
