Elelyso is indicated for the treatment of Type 1 Gaucher disease in adult and pediatric patients. It is used for patients who require enzyme replacement therapy to manage symptoms such as anemia, thrombocytopenia, bone disease, hepatosplenomegaly, and growth retardation associated with this condition.
Elelyso contains taliglucerase alfa, a recombinant form of the enzyme glucocerebrosidase. It works by providing exogenous enzyme to break down accumulated glucocerebroside in the cells of patients with Gaucher disease, thereby reducing the burden of these fatty substances in various organs and tissues.
Elelyso is administered via intravenous infusion, typically every other week. As with other enzyme replacement therapies, allergic reactions may occur during infusion. Treatment should be supervised by a physician experienced in managing Gaucher disease. The medication may interact with other drugs, and patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications they are taking.
