Treatment of HIV-1 infection in treatment-naive or virologically suppressed adults and pediatric patients (≥25 kg), typically as part of a complete antiretroviral regimen.
Elvitegravir inhibits HIV-1 integrase, an enzyme required for viral DNA integration into host cell chromosomes, thereby preventing viral replication. Cobicistat boosts Elvitegravir levels by inhibiting CYP3A-mediated metabolism.
Should not be used as monotherapy; always administered with other antiretroviral agents. May cause drug interactions via CYP3A. Not recommended for patients with severe renal impairment. Resistance may develop if used without other antiretrovirals.
