Epidiolex is indicated for the treatment of seizures associated with Dravet syndrome, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis complex in patients one year of age and older. These are rare but severe forms of epilepsy that often do not respond well to traditional anti-epileptic medications.

The exact mechanism by which CBD produces its anticonvulsant effects is not fully understood. CBD is believed to work through multiple pathways, including modulation of the endocannabinoid system, reduction of neuronal excitability, and anti-inflammatory effects. As a purified pharmaceutical formulation, it contains minimal levels of THC (the psychoactive component of cannabis).

Epidiolex may cause side effects including drowsiness, decreased appetite, diarrhea, and liver abnormalities. It can interact with other medications, particularly those metabolized by the liver. Patients should not stop taking Epidiolex abruptly without medical supervision. This is a prescription-only medication and is not approved for recreational use.
