Published: July 26, 2026Updated: July 26, 2026

Erdafitinib is a targeted cancer medication that inhibits fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFR1-4), which are involved in cancer cell growth and proliferation. It is specifically approved for treating adults with locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (bladder cancer) that has certain FGFR genetic alterations and has progressed after platinum-based chemotherapy.

Erdafitinib is indicated for the treatment of adults with locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma that has FGFR3 or FGFR2 genetic alterations and has progressed during or after at least one prior platinum-containing chemotherapy regimen.

Erdafitinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that binds to and inhibits FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3, and FGFR4. By blocking these receptors, it inhibits FGFR phosphorylation and downstream signaling pathways, which decreases cancer cell viability and proliferation in tumors with FGFR genetic alterations.

Erdafitinib is taken orally once daily. Common side effects include phosphate elevation, stomatitis, fatigue, and skin-related reactions. Eye exams are recommended at baseline and periodically during treatment due to risk of ocular disorders. Patients should avoid pregnancy during treatment as it can cause fetal harm.
