Therapeutic indication

Preventive treatment of episodic and chronic migraine in adults who experience at least 4 migraine days per month. It is not used to treat acute migraine attacks.

Erenumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that selectively binds to and blocks the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor. By preventing CGRP from binding to its receptor, it reduces the neurogenic inflammation and pain signaling associated with migraines.

Administered as a monthly subcutaneous injection (70mg or 140mg). Common side effects may include injection site reactions, constipation, and hypertension. Patients should be monitored for serious allergic reactions. Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed.
