Treatment of menopausal and postmenopausal symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and urogenital atrophy. Also used for hormone replacement therapy and management of vulvovaginal atrophy in women of all ages.
Estriol is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that binds to estrogen receptors in target tissues including the vagina, uterus, and bone. It produces estrogenic effects by activating estrogen-responsive genes, helping restore hormonal balance and alleviate deficiency symptoms.
Should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with treatment goals. Women with an intact uterus may require concurrent progestogen therapy to prevent endometrial hyperplasia. Contraindicated in patients with hormone-sensitive cancers, unexplained vaginal bleeding, liver disease, or history of VTE. Regular monitoring and breast examinations are recommended during long-term therapy.
