Exelderm is indicated for the treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), and tinea corporis (ringworm) caused by susceptible fungi including dermatophytes and certain yeasts.
Exelderm contains sulconazole nitrate, an azole antifungal agent that works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption weakens the fungal cell membrane, preventing the growth and spread of the infection.
Exelderm is for external use only and should not be applied to the eyes, mouth, or vagina. Patients should continue using the medication for the full prescribed duration even if symptoms improve. Common side effects may include skin irritation, burning, or itching at the application site. Patients with known hypersensitivity to azole antifungals should avoid this medication.
