Flumazenil
Flumazenil is a benzodiazepine antagonist used primarily as an antidote for benzodiazepine overdose and to reverse benzodiazepine-induced sedation during medical procedures. It works by competitively binding to GABA-A receptors, displacing benzodiazepines and rapidly reversing their effects.

Flumazenil is used to treat benzodiazepine overdose, including accidental or intentional ingestion. It is also administered to reverse sedation caused by benzodiazepines during surgical procedures, diagnostic interventions, and in intensive care settings. Additionally, it may be used to help diagnose benzodiazepine dependence.
Flumazenil is a competitive antagonist at the benzodiazepine binding site on GABA-A receptors in the central nervous system. By displacing benzodiazepines from these receptors, it rapidly reverses their sedative, anxiolytic, and muscle relaxant effects, restoring normal receptor function.
Flumazenil has a short half-life (approximately 1 hour), so repeated dosing may be required as effects can wear off while benzodiazepines remain in circulation. It should be used with caution in patients with benzodiazepine dependence, as it may precipitate acute withdrawal or seizures. Use is contraindicated in patients with severe uncontrolled epilepsy or those with known hypersensitivity to flumazenil or benzodiazepines.
