Fulphila is used to reduce the risk of infection in patients with non-myeloid malignancies (such as lung, breast, or ovarian cancer) who are receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy regimens that are associated with a clinically significant incidence of febrile neutropenia.
Fulphila is a colony-stimulating factor that binds to granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) receptors on neutrophil precursor cells in the bone marrow. This stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of neutrophil precursors, increasing the production and release of mature neutrophils into the bloodstream.
Fulphila is administered as a single subcutaneous injection per chemotherapy cycle, given at least 24 hours after chemotherapy. It should not be given within 14 days before or within 24 hours after chemotherapy. Patients should be monitored for potential side effects including bone pain, splenic rupture, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. This is a biosimilar to Neulasta with no clinically meaningful differences in safety, purity, or potency.
