Galliprant is indicated for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs. It is prescribed to help manage chronic joint pain and improve mobility in dogs suffering from degenerative joint disease.
Galliprant is a selective EP4 receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) receptor, which is involved in pain and inflammation pathways. Unlike traditional NSAIDs, it does not inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, providing anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects through a targeted mechanism.
Galliprant is for use in dogs only and should not be used in cats, breeding dogs, pregnant or lactating dogs, or dogs used for breeding. It should be used with caution in dogs with pre-existing liver or kidney issues. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. Always follow your veterinarian's prescribing information and dosing instructions.
