Gazyva is approved for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in combination with other chemotherapy medications, and for previously untreated follicular lymphoma in combination with chemotherapy followed by Gazyva alone for maintenance therapy.

Gazyva is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the CD20 protein found on the surface of B cells. By binding to this protein, it helps the immune system recognize and destroy these cells. It works through antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), complement-mediated cytotoxicity, and directly inducing cell death.

Gazyva is administered as an intravenous (IV) infusion in a healthcare setting. Common side effects include infusion reactions, fever, cough, nausea, and frequent infections due to low blood cell counts. Patients should be monitored for tumor lysis syndrome, hepatitis B reactivation, and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). Pregnant or breastfeeding patients should not use this medication.
