Sodium Hyaluronate
Glassia is a brand-name alpha-1 proteinase inhibitor (alpha-1 antitrypsin) used as chronic replacement therapy for patients with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). It is administered intravenously to raise and maintain alpha-1 antitrypsin levels in the blood and lungs, helping to protect lung tissue from damage caused by neutrophil elastase. This medication is indicated for patients with AATD who have clinical evidence of emphysema.
Glassia is an IV infusion that replaces the deficient alpha-1 antitrypsin protein in patients with AATD to slow emphysema progression.

Chronic augmentation therapy for adults with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) who have clinically evident emphysema. It is not indicated for patients with the PiZZ genotype who do not have evidence of lung disease.
Glassia contains human alpha-1 antitrypsin, a naturally occurring protein that inhibits neutrophil elastase. In AATD, deficient levels of this protein allow unchecked enzyme activity that damages lung tissue. The infusion raises serum and lung epithelial lining fluid levels of alpha-1 antitrypsin to provide protective inhibition of neutrophil elastase.
Administered weekly by IV infusion. Common side effects include headache, nasopharyngitis, and mild infusion reactions. Not for acute bronchospasm or as monotherapy for COPD unrelated to AATD. Patients should be monitored for signs of infection during therapy as it is derived from human plasma.
