Used to treat infertility in women by inducing ovulation, to treat undescended testes in children, and for diagnostic testing of pituitary gonadotropin function. May also be used in men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.

Acts as an agonist at GnRH receptors in the anterior pituitary gland, causing release of LH and FSH. When given in a pulsatile manner, this mimics normal physiological secretion and stimulates the gonads.

Administered via subcutaneous or intravenous injection, often in a pulsatile fashion using an infusion pump for fertility indications. May cause ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, multiple pregnancy, or local injection site reactions. Contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding, and known hypersensitivity.
