Treatment of proliferating infantile hemangiomas requiring systemic therapy, typically in infants aged 5 weeks to 5 months with hemangiomas that are life-threatening, functionally impairing, or at risk of causing permanent scarring or disfigurement.
As a non-selective beta-blocker, Hemangeol blocks beta-adrenergic receptors in blood vessels supplying the hemangioma, causing vasoconstriction, reducing blood flow, and promoting regression of the growth.
This is a specially formulated liquid preparation for infants and should not be confused with other propranolol products. Close monitoring is required for hypoglycemia, bradycardia, and bronchospasm during treatment. Dosing must be carefully calculated based on body weight.
