Prevention of hepatitis A virus infection in individuals at risk, including travelers to endemic regions, people with chronic liver disease, men who have sex with men, and those with occupational exposure risk. May also be used for post-exposure prophylaxis in close contacts of confirmed cases.

The vaccine contains inactivated (killed) hepatitis A virus antigen derived from the CR 326f strain. After administration, the immune system recognizes the antigen as foreign and produces protective antibodies, providing immunity against future hepatitis A virus exposure.

Standard vaccination series typically involves two doses given 6-12 months apart for long-term protection. Common side effects may include soreness at the injection site, headache, and fatigue. The vaccine is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any vaccine component. Adequate immunity develops approximately 2-4 weeks after the initial dose.
