Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for rabies in individuals who have been exposed to animals with suspected or confirmed rabies, typically following bites, scratches, or other contact that may have transferred rabies virus.

Provides passive immunization by delivering ready-made rabies virus antibodies that neutralize the virus at the wound site, working alongside the active immunity generated by the rabies vaccine.

Administered as a single dose at the time of the first rabies vaccine dose. Should be infiltrated around the wound site when anatomically feasible. May be derived from human (HRIG) or equine (ERIG) sources, each with different risk profiles for adverse reactions. Does not replace the need for rabies vaccination.
